Requirements and Procedures for Undergraduate
I. Qualifications
Over 18 years old (No later than 31st. Dec of that year), high school graduate or above, non-Chinese citizen, and in good health.
Note:
1. If the applicants birthday is after 31st. Aug, it should provide the guardian’s information.
The guardian should provide the following documents:
(1) The copy of the passport (The first page).
(2) The live certification issued by local police station (choose one from the two):
Chinese citizen: the copy of Chinese Identity Card
Non-Chinese citizen: the copy of the non-student residence permit (It should expire after 31st. Jan of the next year)
(3) The certification of deposit balance (More than 100,000 RMB; The period of validity should be after 31st. Jan of the next year.)

2. Since 2010,those who immigrated to other countries from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan and applying to study in Tongji University as international students, should meet the following additional requirements: the applicants must hold valid passport or other relevant international recognized documents for at least 4 years; meanwhile, in the latest 4 years (by each April 30th of the year of University registration), the applicants must have lived overseas for 2 years (Living overseas for 9 months can be converted to 1 year, which is subject to the exit-entry stamp on visa).
II. Application Period
15th Mar- 30th May (for autumn semester)
III. Application Materials
1. Application Form for International Students of Tongji University with the applicant’s signature
2. A photocopy of passport (pages with photo).
3. High school graduation certificate. If the certificate is not in Chinese or English, the original notarized translated versions must be submitted.
* The certificate should be notarized by local Chinese Embassy or local Chinese Consulates (or foreign embassies or consulates in China).
Certificate of expected graduation issued by senior high school (for applicants who will be graduating from senior high school before July only). Senior high school diploma is required to be verified and notarized documents must be submitted at the registration.
4. Original or notarized transcript of senior high school. If the transcript are not in Chinese or English, the original notarized translated versions must be submitted.
* The transcript should be notarized by local Chinese Embassy or local Chinese Consulates (or foreign embassies or consulates in China).
5. The copy of New HSK Band 4 certificate (Total Score: over 180 for the programs of Science and engineering).
The copy of New HSK Band 4 certificate (Total Score: over 200 for the programs of Architecture, Management & Economics and Medicine).
The copy of New HSK Band 5 certificate (Total Score: over 180 for the program of Liberal Arts).
* The applicants for the majors such as Architecture, Urban Planning and Landscape Studies must submit 3 paintings (2 sketches and 1 watercolor).
6. Requirement for freshmen (Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language): Original certificate of New HSK Band 3 and the copy of it (Total Score: over 180);
Those who applying for bachelor’s degree majoring Chinese language possessing New HSK Band 4 (Total Score: over 210) and having one year Chinese study experience, passing the placement test can start from Grade 2, and those who possessing New HSK Band 5 (Total Score: over 210) and having two-year Chinese-study experience, passing the placement test can start from Grade 3.
7. Other auxiliary supporting materials (such as award certificates, foreign entrance examination transcripts, university admission notice, etc.)
* In addition to the above application materials, the university may require applicant to provide supplementary materials, depending on the circumstances. The application fee is non refundable. Application documents will not be returned.
IV. Application Procedure
1. Complete the Online Application procedure at the website http://tongji.admissions.cn/ and print the application form.
2. Pay the application fee by bank transfer and submit the photocopy of transfer voucher with other documents or pay it directly when submitting the documents at international student office.
3. The applicants can submit the documents in person (or entrust others to submit) or send the documents by post. Application documents should be received before deadline , or it will be considered as a waiver of application.
Note: The enrollment and admission mode of Tongji University is based on the assessment of the application materials and interview performance (depending on the circumstances), and no entrance examinations.
